Smooth ceramic. Warm bamboo. Quiet ritual.

Matte ceramic in a soft cream glaze, cool and weighty in the hand. The bamboo lid sits flush, its grain visible and varied, no two exactly alike. A small wooden spoon tucks beneath the lid, its curve worn smooth with use.

This is the kind of object that improves with daily ritual. Flour dust settles into its quiet corners. Salt crystals scatter across the counter. It belongs in the kitchen, not displayed on a shelf.

The salt jar that stays on the counter

Before this, we kept salt in a bag or a cheap glass jar. Now it's in the Dune and it sits in the corner of the kitchen and looks like it belongs there. The bamboo lid has a satisfying weight to it.

Handmade is obvious the moment you hold it

The slight variation in the glaze and the weight of the stoneware are immediately apparent. It feels unlike anything mass-produced. We use it for flaky sea salt and the combination of materials is just right.

Finally a spice jar that earns counter space

We'd resigned ourselves to a messy spice situation. One Dune jar later, the salt is always to hand, always contained, and the counter looks intentional around it. We've since ordered three more.

Frequently asked questions

Does the lid seal airtight?

The bamboo lid rests snugly but is not airtight. This design is intentional, it allows coarse salt and sugar to stay dry without trapping moisture. Not recommended for humidity-sensitive spices.

Will it stain if I use coloured spices?

The matte glaze may absorb some colour from turmeric or paprika over time. We see this as part of the object's story, but lighter spices and salts will keep it pristine longer.

Is the spoon included?

Yes. Each dune ceramic jar arrives with a small wooden spoon designed to nest beneath the lid.

What is the capacity?

Approximately 400ml — designed for a weekly supply of salt, sugar, or a frequently used spice. Not intended for bulk storage.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Hand washing is recommended to preserve the matte glaze and extend the life of the bamboo lid. A quick rinse and air dry is all it needs.

What is it made from?

Hand-formed stoneware with a matte glaze, a fitted bamboo lid, and a small wooden spoon. Formed individually, so slight variation in shape is part of the object.

Can it hold liquids?

The ceramic is water-resistant but the bamboo lid is not designed for liquid storage. Intended for dry goods.
